Difference Between Forged and Cast Bucket Teeth
Although the bucket tooth is a small part of earthmoving machine and the price of which is relatively low, but strength and durability are the undoubted factors that must be considered when choosing. Among various types of bucket teeth, usually forged bucket teeth and cast bucket teeth both are wear-resistant. But the forged bucket teeth offer more wear resistance and hardness, the service life of which is 2 times longer than that of cast bucket teeth.
Casting process
This manufacturing process begins with pouring molten metal into the cavity of mold which has a duplicate pattern of the bucket tooth. After cooling, the bucket teeth are removed from the mold.
The casting process may cause air entrainment during metal pouring, and will produce excess metal when two sections of mold are attached together. The mechanical properties and wear resistance of cast bucket teeth are not good enough comparing with forged teeth.
Forging process
Forged bucket teeth are produced from steel billets through innovative forging process. By utilizing forging machine to produce extreme pressure along with high temperature to extrude and form, grain flow of steel is optimized to provide enhanced mechanical properties. After being forged, the bucket teeth are characterized by high impact strength, better wear resistance and longer service life.

Chrome-moly alloy steel is used as raw material, which is cut to size and heated in electric induction heating unit to 1100°C. Electric heating provides product with higher quality than that by gas heating. Following forging process, secondary heat treating needs to be carried out.
